Why Vote for Leslie Roosa?

Experience

I have served on a number of significant boards.  This includes being a Trustee for the BC Teachers Pension Plan (with assets over 34 billion dollars), a Director for Community Savings Credit Union (with assets totalling over 800 million dollars), and the Secretary-Treasurer for the Vancouver Elementary Teachers Association (one of the largest teacher associations in the province).  These boards have allowed me to develop financial expertise with budgets, auditing and accountability, understanding the complexity of organization structures, and experience with governance within large and complex institutions.  Solid experience to bring to City Council.

Analysis and Decision Making

Through my board experience, I have been exposed to high level decision making at the Board and Committee Level.  This includes making decisions through the analysis of policy and procedures, detailed data analysis, and comparative financial and research analysis.  This decision making and analysis has also been made in the context of the interest of Stakeholders, Collective Agreements and the Workers’ Compensation Act. All of which is valuable knowledge and experience for a new Coquitlam City Councillor.

Communicating

Through my leadership roles I have had the opportunity to speak in public and advocate for important issues that are important to the organizations that I have served and stakeholders that I have represented.  I also understand the “fine art” of listening and asking questions to better understand concerns on important issues from staff, agencies and stakeholders.  I would continue with this leadership style to better serve the needs of Coquitlam Citizens.
